There are three main factors that affect the polishing effect of injection molds:

1. The quality of steel

Uneven surface hardness or differences in characteristics often produce polishing difficulties, and various inclusions and pores in the steel are not conducive to polishing.


2. Heat treatment process

Heat treatment can affect polishing performance in many ways, and the fine structure of case-hardened steel is not conducive to polishing due to the increased carbon composition of the surface. Because the increase in small oxide particles on the surface of the steel makes polishing difficult. Carburizing or decarburization of the steel surface will change the hardness and cause difficulties in polishing.


3. Polishing technology and process equipment

The influence of different hardness on the polishing process, the increase in hardness increases the difficulty of grinding, but the polished finish increases, due to the increase in hardness, the polishing time required to achieve a higher finish increases, and the hardness increases, and the excessive polishing may be reduced accordingly. The influence of different steel grades on polishing technology, for stainless steel mold steel, because of their extremely high surface finish, so the grinding process used is also slightly different, before polishing to try to grind the surface to a fine sand number, the important thing is to eliminate the previous polishing hanging mark during polishing to stop the operation immediately.
